A special report by IBISWorld counts social gaming as one of ten specific industries that are adding value to the global economy to an extent that surpasses other sectors. IBISWorld defines this value in terms of growth in revenues over the past decade along with performance forecast through 2017. Social game development... read more>>

Facebook Spoof Nominated For Webby Award

The viral hit video "The Man Without a Facebook" has been nominated for a Webby Award. This is the second Webby nomination we've encountered that involves something removed from Facebook, although admittedly the video is a satire about someone not using the social network at all. The other example of something removed from Facebook that's up for a Webby is a timeline profile that got taken down for not representing a real person.... read more>>

ALERT: Beware Of The Facebook Credits Generator

We've got a live one here, folks: The Facebook Credits Generator. Someone posted a link to it on our own Facebook page and we deleted it to protect you from this malware, but the fact that it didn't trigger the spam filter means that the social network's site's immune system hasn't learned to block this one yet. Hopefully, this is changing right as you're reading this post, as Facebook's own security team moves... read more>>

The Most Insincere Business Behavior On Facebook

I see businesspeople acting like they care about something when all they're interested in is some form of payoff. The insincerity shows through. Back when Facebook and Twitter were still young, it was understandable that people were doing these things. Everyone was figuring social media out, so we did what we were told to do. But now, you've had enough time to figure out that what you're doing is insincere and stupid. Yet,... read more>>

Taxes In Facebook News Feeds Aren't A Certainty

This year's tax filing deadline in the U.S. approaches this Tuesday, so that means we can expect to see an increase in news feed posts on the topic over the next few days, right? Actually, not all of us will see an increase, thanks to the way Facebook has upgraded its news feed algorithm. If you interact with any content concerning taxes, then, yes, you'll see more posts about this year's... read more>>

Facebook Tie-In Boosts Kred Influence Rankings

Kred users have the opportunity to boost their influence scores now that Facebook has been added to the ranking system. When Kred was launched, the influence measurement site used only Twitter feed activity as a measurement of social credibility. The integration with Facebook is a little trickier, because this larger social network features a larger quantity of acitivity that's far more varied than what occurs on the likes of Twitter. Now, Facebook, posts, shares,... read more>>

Facebook Tests Ways To Clarify Social Sharing

One of the biggest concerns about using social readers is users' confusion over whether or not content is being shared, and Facebook appears to be testing a solution to that issue. Sister blog Inside Facebook reported that users of social readers tied to media outlets such as Digg, ESPN, The Huffington Post, and Yahoo News will now see two different icons to alert them if their friends will be able to see... read more>>

Facebook Rolls Out Offers, Acquires Tagtile

Today Facebook is debuting its offers service, the same day as the announced acquisition of rewards startup Tagtile. Facebook created a video about the offers rollout that we've embedded at the bottom of the post. The social network had announced this product six weeks ago, saying that page administrators would have the ability to create free offer material on their own pages, and elevating the promotion to something visible on the homepage... read more>>

Facebook Timeline Removal Vendors Squabble

The developer of browser extension Timeline Remove accused Exoot Systems, developer of similar browser plugin Facebook Timeline Remover, of copying the former's code, which the latter denied. Timeline Remove and Facebook Timeline Remover accomplish the same basic task: Both plugins allow Facebook users to view their profiles in the old layout, rather than timeline. The developer of Timeline Remove sent us the following email, along with the graphic below: The way this new extension... read more>>
